What Engines Are Available for the 2023 Jeep Wrangler?

The Wrangler is available with five engine options, two transmission options, and three 4×4 systems. As is standard for most of the lineup, the Wrangler is equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine, Command-Trac part-time 4×4, and a six-speed manual transmission. This setup gives drivers 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque. Meanwhile, the Sahara and High Altitude trims come with a turbocharged 2.0L inline four-cylinder engine, Selec-Trac 4×4, and an 8-speed automatic transmission. The turbocharged engine lays down 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. Optional for the Willys, Sahara, Rubicon, and High Altitude trim levels is the 4xe powertrain. Jeep 4xe is a plug-in hybrid powertrain, linking the turbocharged four-cylinder engine to two electric motors and a 400-volt lithium-ion battery pack. The PHEV system gets an impressive 49 MPGe while producing 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque instantly. The last engine option for the Wrangler is the exciting 6.4L HEMI V8, exclusive to the Wrangler Rubicon 392. With an eight-speed automatic transmission and paddle shifters mounted to the steering wheel, the Wrangler Rubicon 392 pumps out an enthralling 470 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque.

2023 Jeep Wrangler 4×4 Systems

As we mentioned above, the Jeep Wrangler is available with three 4×4 systems. The first system, Command-Trac, is standard. Command-Trac is a part-time 4×4 system that allows drivers to manually shift between two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive with high and low modes to provide optimal traction wherever they go. Meanwhile, Selec-Trac is standard on the Sahara, High Altitude, Rubicon 392, and all 4xe trim levels. The Selec-Trac system uses a full-time active transfer case. This monitors tire spin for a loss of traction with a network of sensors and automatically responds by redistributing torque to the axle with the most traction. This happens without any driver input, unlike Command-Trac, allowing drivers to focus on driving while the system focuses on maintaining optimal traction. Lastly, Rock-Trac 4×4, exclusive to the Wrangler Rubicon, is another part-time system, like Command-Trac. However, unlike Command-Trac, Rock-Trac 4×4 uses a transfer case optimized for off-roading. With a 4:1 low-range gear ratio, the transfer case provides higher torque at low RPMs to keep the wheels moving in the right direction while slowly crawling over rugged terrain.

What Are Some Standard and Available Features for the 2023 Wrangler?

The Jeep Wrangler can be anything you need it to be. For example, the entry-level Sport trim fulfills the basic needs for any adventure with a removable soft top, a fold-down windshield, removable doors, a rear-mounted full-size spare tire, 17-inch steel wheels, underbody skid plates, and rugged black fender flares and bumpers. Most Wrangler trim levels come standard with two doors, while the Unlimited (four-door) body style is optional. However, the Sahara, High Altitude, 4xe, and Rubicon 392 models come only in Unlimited. Standard interior equipment includes a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen, cloth upholstery, one way drain plugs, a 4.2-inch digital driver information display between analog gauges, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and six speakers. Depending on the trim level you select, higher trim levels add things like 32-inch or 33-inch tires, rock rails, off-roading suspension, 20-inch alloy wheels, body-color exterior appointments, a disconnecting sway bar, locking differentials, an 8.4-inch touchscreen, Alpine premium audio with nine speakers, navigation, and much more.
